Frequently Asked Questions
Please read our FAQ before sending us a message.
We do accept walk in nail trims on days the salon is open, but do not accept walk in grooms to prevent overbooking. All appointments are pre-scheduled. We can only groom a certain numbers of dogs a day so don’t let your dog get behind the pack.
Ideally every day but we know life gets busy. Try for at least 3 times a week.
Because it hurts A LOT! We will try our best to save as much of the coat as possible, and use a deep conditioner that works to detangle the hair. If the dogs’ hair is matted, the hair is already damaged and will not brush out to healthy looking or feeling hair. If the dog has a mat or two that is a different story – We will do our best to remove the mat and continue on with the haircut.
It’s important to have your puppy groomed as soon as possible so they can get used to, and learn to love the grooming experience. We recommend they come in two weeks after their last set of vaccinations. They will receive a bath, sanitary cut, and nail trim just not a full cut as the evolution from puppy to adult coat is dependent on breed. Instead, a grooming regiment will be suggested to suit your puppy and they will be introduced, in a relaxing and fun way; to the sights, sounds, and smells of the grooming salon. This will ensure that future visits are stress free.
Pricing is based on breed, hair length, the condition of the dog’s skin, its temperament, age, and grooming history. We will give an exact cost at your pre-treatment consultation. However please use the prices listed on our Services page as guide pricing.
As your pooch loves you very much they will wiggle and move around trying to get close to you which is not safe while we are grooming. It is best to drop off your pooch at their scheduled appointment time, and then come back when the treatment is finished. We are very happy to show our customers around the Spa so they can see where their pooch will have their treatment. Also please feel free to give us a call any time during the treatment to find out how your pooch is doing.
The time taken will depend on the condition and length of your pooch’s hair. We will contact you prior to the end of the treatment to advise what time you should pick up your pooch.
Your pooch’s nails should be trimmed monthly. You do not need a pre-booked appointment, but we do recommend you call on the day before you come to reduce your wait time.
If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with the treatment received, please advise within 2 business days so we can do our best to rectify it. Pet parents satisfaction is important to us. We take great pride in our service and want pooch’s parents to as well.
For the protection of both your dog and our staff we do use cage banks where dogs are kept separate and comfortable while they wait to be worked and/or picked up. These banks are located adjacent to our groomers and are always being attended to by Dog Grooming Shop staff. There is also a window where they can be viewed from the reception area.
Yes, we externally express anal glands during our bathing process.
The truth of the matter is that dogs will be dogs and unexpected jumps, wiggles, and sudden movements can happen. As much as we prioritize the safety and health of your dog, our groomers are handling scissors and razors around them, and sometimes your dog may move too quickly for our groomers to anticipate. And as rare as it is for an accident to occur, they are only superficial cuts that will heal quickly. Furthermore, our instruments are cleaned daily, as is our grooming salon, so there is little risk of infection. We will always inform you of any nicks that may occur during your dog’s stay.
Cancellations can leave an empty block in the schedule that could have otherwise been filled by another customer, and so we ask that any cancellations are made at least 24 hours in advance. A cancellation fee will apply if insufficient notice is given.
We accept Cash, Check, and most Debit/ Credit Cards.
